Art Fag, the label that brought us a great four-way split earlier this year, was the home of the first 7″ from Best Coast aka Bethany Cosentino. For this next pair of tracks, produced by Fool’s Gold’s Lewis Pesacov, she’s taken musical partner Bobb Bruno and flipped over to Lewis’s Black Iris imprint. The 7″ features “When I’m With You” b/w “This Is Real,” both of which fit nicely in the rising tide of beachy noise-pop coming from the West Coast: playfully fuzzed and pleasantly reverbed, heartbeat drums, girl group harmonies, and a fixation on California pop you don’t need to skim her press materials to finger. One MP3, one stream, both here:

The “When I’m Gone” b/w “This Is Real” single is out digitally tomorrow via Black Iris.

That certainly SOUNDS appealing…I’ll believe it when I hear it…
They were so good at the Wavves concert…definitely looking forward to their debut!
Love Best Coast. Saw one of her first shows in San Diego with Pearl Harbor and they both rocked the house. Can’t wait for a full length. Also rumor has it her and Nathan from Wavves are an item so let’s get to the bottom of that.

Umm Stereogum, i believe a beloved indie-electro rock drummer died tragically in nyc saturday night…perhaps a blip?? a la dickhead who mentioned Radiohead for a half second?
Umm, Dave-android, I believe you should take a little time to peruse the site before launching into minor tirades over what a site did or did not mention.

i like this a lot! her voice is great, a refreshing change from the slew of whiney dudes that are usually drenched in reverb, but when did “reverb” and “beach” become synonymous?
Dave-android seems really cool. i wonder why i’ve never heard of him… oh yeah.
i don’t think it’s the reverb that makes it sound beachy, i think it’s the beachy sounding part.
