Paul Weller’s releasing his night solo album this summer. The 21-track, 70-minute shaggy-dog finds the ex-Jam and Style Councilor cycling through, among other things, soul, rock, folk, jazz, spoken word, Moog weirdness with guests ranging from Graham Coxon, Ocean Colour Scene’s Steve Cradock, Little Barrie, ex-Stone Roses guitarist Aziz Ibrahim, and Oasis’s Gem Archer and Noel Gallagher. “Have You Made Up Your Mind,” a summer-y soulful strutter, shows up as a double A-Side with the noisy, over-driven strings-and-blip laced psych-rocker Weller co-wrote with Noel G, but it gets a video before the Gallagher collaboration. Not much of a video, but a video. It’s basically a bunch of swirly ink-spotty artwork cycling through still promo shots of Weller.

Maybe he couldn’t make the shoot? Whatever the case, if it ever comes up, please remind us never to shoot a video just using still photos of ourselves floating around inky art. We realize this would involve bending the influence time line into a pretzel, but this really has us thinking “Urge Overkill.” The band, not just those words.

22 Dreams is out 7/22 on Yep Roc.

Poor PW, and that goes for Paul Westerberg as well.
