The Flaming Lips And Heady Fwends

Tomorrow’s Record Store Day, and many of our 10 Most Anticipated Record Store Day Exclusives are finding their way to us a day early in non-vinyl form. There’s been the unlikely bedfellows Feist and Mastodon, Dirty Projectors’ album-worthy, non-album demo “You Against The Larger World,” and here below, a three-plus minute compendium of snippets from the Flaming Lips’ double LP, Heady Fwends. It’s difficult to identify the tracks on the back half of this clip, but it definitely begins with “I Don’t Want You To Die,” a tremendously sentimental collabo song which features a lyric about “all the birds … in the sky.” And that’s exactly what you should expect a lyric written by Wayne Coyne and Chris Martin to read like. The Flaming Lips And Heady Fwends is out tomorrow for Record Store Day, and features contributions from Bon Iver, Ke$ha, Tame Impala, Nick Cave, Yoko Ono, and Neon Indian.

UPDATE: Here’s the album version of the Chris Martin collab:
