According to Consequence Of Sound, a previously reliable source pins Muse to the coming year’s desert fest headlining slot. Glenn Beck just bought a ticket. The dates are April 16-18. Oh and these Coachella headliner rumors? Needs more Pavement.

Tell us something we didn’t already know. Muse is just as expected and at the same level of excitement (which wasn’t a ton) as last year’s Killers headlining spot.

As for Pavement, Consequence of Sound also hinted in a recent interview with Spiral Stairs that they’ll be there, probably subheadlining for Arcade Fire (My guess, not theirs.) No idea who else is headlining, but the deep buzz has Interpol, Faith No More, The Stooges, The Dead Weather and Blur as the other bigger name bands coming this year.

Muse are fantastic, and have been headling festivals in Europe for years. its a shame that their rise to headliner status is on the tails of being attached to Twilight, but it is what it is. People will surely complain non-stop about it, much like the Killers slot last year. And much like the Killers slot last year, there will be a ton of people at the set to watch it. I personally saw more people at the Killers set than I did the next night at The Cure. And for the record Muse are one, if not the best live band around.

Its about Ticket sales. sorry old hipsters, but Goldenvoice is out to make money. same reason Pavement will NOT headline. maybe subheadline at best, they just dont have the draw.

Personally I’m living in a fantasy world hoping for a David Bowie / Blur / Muse headlining weekend. I’ll take Arcade Fire in there as well.

More like Bowie triple headliner and Blur and Muse can just be some of the bands in larger fonts =P

Let Pavement play the Fonda or the Wiltern. Screw Coachella.

Add Daft Punk on the mainstage, Interpol, Pavement, The Strokes, Hot Chip

  6. Muse would be great, I don’t think their latest effort holds up to Absolution but then again neither did Black Holes.. They are great Live and sound better with 3 people than some bands with 6 plus members! I’d like to see HDAwake play there, I want to see him pull that stuff off live, if thats possible?

I saw Muse open twice for U2. They did play well but like The Killers, they seemed very unoriginal and seemed to sound like a combination of U2 & Radiohead. I was not at all impressed. Not one song seemed to stand out. Not headline material. Coachella seems to be running out of viable headliners. Bowie? Why do people think he would play? He hasn’t been on stage in years. Pavement? Hardly a headliner. Hot Chip? Lame. Blur? That would work but I doubt it. The Dead Weather? They’re good for around 30 minutes tops. And if I ever saw Glenn Beck at any festival I would have to do something I have never done before: spit on that asshole!

Muse are so overrated and contrived. Total Radiohead/Queen ripoff. So sick of hearing about this overproduced madness. Their fans consist of dumb-down chicks with no musical sense or taste whatsoever. How about a Blur/Ride/Suede Coachella without all the lame mainstream bandwagoneers, maybe add some Teenage Fanclub as well.

The Stooges have announced a couple showa in France that weekend in April. April 16 in Lille, April 17th in Strasbourg. Doubtful they are playing Coachella that same weekend.

If Coachella wants to sell tickets, they should have Pearl Jam headline a night. They’ve never played Coachella before, they have a new album out (and it’s not bad), and they always put on a great live show. As great as Blur and Pavement are, they’re not going to help sell tons of tickets.
