Danny Brown has amassed most of his sizable buzz over the last year or so, but he’s also a veteran of Detroit’s rap scene, and he worked with legendary stoner-rap producer J Dilla when Dilla was still alive. So it makes all kinds of sense that he’d show up on Rebirth Of Detroit, a forthcoming compilation that features rappers spitting new verses over unreleased Dilla instrumentals. On the album track “Jay-Dee’s Revenge,” an absolutely fiery Brown goes in over a murky, bottom-heavy Dilla beat, and the song’s video is all grainy images of Dilla iconography. Watch it below.
Rebirth Of Detroit is out 6/12 on Yancey Media Group/Ruff Draft.
