Arizona-bred, Omaha-based Digital Leather mastermind Shawn Foree recently released Warm Brother via Fat Possum (Remember that traveling gloryhole?). You won’t find this Bowie-esque cover of MGMT’s “Time To Pretend” anywhere near the new record. The song, which he recorded with Jay Reatard’s ex-bandmates, debuted in this week’s ’Gum Drop. We asked Foree a couple of questions about the take: Find out his reasoning while you take a close listen.

In this week’s Drop we also offered the chance to win U2′s remastered 180 gram vinyl catalog.

One winner gets the re-mastered U2 vinyl catalog, which includes October, Boy, War, Under A Blood Red Sky, Joshua Tree, and The Unforgettable Fire. Each is done on 180 gram vinyl. The giveaway’s in celebration of the recent remastered release of the band’s fourth album, The Unforgettable Fire, which first came out in October 1984 (yes, 25 years ago). It was the first U2 album produced by Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois. This vinyl edition, remastered under the supervision of the Edge, comes with a 16-page booklet that includes liner notes by Eno, Lanois and Bert Van de Kamp. In case you need a refresher:

You can purchase The Unforgettable Fire anniversary edition in regular and deluxe editions. Or you can enter this contest and take it home with all the aforementioned records. so scott is is true that if you don’t sign up to receive additional news from U2/Mercury Records or any of the other related gumdrop giveaway sponsors that you’re automatically nixed from the prize winning consideration? because that’d break my heart like the ongoing beck/fieryfurnaces/radiohead beef.

(ohhh how i want that peanut riesling in gummys giveaway…)

    • Whether or not you opt for updates has no bearing on whether you win. Winner is selected randomly out of all entrants. Good luck!

  2. i’m soo glad that digital leather is FINALLY getting the props they deserve. Shawn is a fucking genius!
