Curren$y - "Capitol" (Feat. 2 Chainz) (Stereogum Premiere)

Breezy NOLA rapper Curren$y — whose consistency is simply remarkable — will put out a new album this summer called The Stoned Immaculate, a release from which we’ve already heard the Wale-featuring “What It Look Like” and the Daz collab “Fast Cars Faster Women.” Today we’ve got another cut from the album where Spitta gets busy on the sort of jazzy, flute-laden texture that he routinely murders. The track also features a verse from everywhere-at-once ATL rapper 2 Chainz, a chameleon who’s parlayed his post-Tity Boi renaissance into visibility on every slice of the rap sphere — lately he’s done time with everybody from Kanye to Kreayshawn (not to mention Drake and Nicki). DAMN. Stream their collaboration, the effortless “Capitol,” below.

The Stoned Immaculate is out 6/5 on Warner Brothers and available on iTunes.

  2. Wanna say this is his best track in awhile, but the hook’s really reminiscent of “Famous” from PT2. I’m a bit ambivalent about the tracks from the album so far, esp “What it Look Like.” He’s letting too many mainstream rappers (or at least dudes with totally different vibe) fold themselves into his style. I hope he get money and exposure from all these features, but kind of want him to tear ish up again by himself, hooks included.

Man, this is total blasphemy, but I sometimes wonder if Curren$y (and weed) just grow kind of boring after awhile…*
