Before Matthew Friedberger was in a “feud” with Radiohead, he and his sis Eleanor were working hard to get the word out about their eighth album, the Jason Loewenstein-assisted I’m Going Away via sunny piano-lined tracks like “The End Is Near” and wordy rockers a la “Charmaine Champagne.” They lighten things up again in this Scott Jacobson-directed “Even In The Rain” video starring “Peter Fonda,” “Dennis Hooper,” and others. Easy, rider.
I’m Going Away is out via Thrill Jockey.

I really liked Blueberry Boat, thought EP was fantastic, love Easy Rider, and think this video is great. But the song is uninspired. I think they need a return to the electronic side of BB or EP, or at least do a total reboot back to Gallowsbird’s Bark.
The studio heads wanted Robert Redford to play Mike C in the Godfather….Morons…I’m sure things like that happen all the time now,,,What about Zach Efron in the remake?
MAKE ANOTHER BLUEBERRY BOAT! STOP SUCKING!!!
I think it can only be considered a feud if the other person agknowledge’s there existence, but video is cool, song is a so-so.
“their” existence.
so i guess that makes it an official ‘fued’ then, between beck and the ff.
people bitched and moaned at Blueberry Boat and their amazing work during that time. I would prefer they started making amazing music again but, most bands only have a few years of great stuff. This song is not bad. It’s just not as good as EP and the work prior to that. Oh well. Still glad he called out Radiohead.
Weak.
Thom Yorke and Beck are both considering selling all of theirequipment and retiring from music forever after hearing that amazing guitar solo at the 3:00 minute mark.
It’s one thing if this was just a middling-to-worst song on their new album – but the most hilarious thing about it is that this is the SINGLE. The Fiery Furnaces were all like, “this is our best, most catchy effort.
I’m sure Radiohead are quaking in their boots after hearing that turdblossom.
Wow, that is a weird song/video. This band reminds me of Feist and Deathcab for Cutie. Also that song “float on” by Modest Mice.
I’m not saying this just because they are a couple of dumbass douchebags, but this song sucks.
a little tip, if you’re going to be an asshole you better release some good music to make everybody forget about your commentary. this song, however, is a better reason to hate on them than the idiocy surrounding the harry patch song.
Their mouths wrote a check their talent can’t cash. BAM!
This is a good song, I think I’m Going Away is their best record since Blueberry Boat anyway. Very underrated band.
As for any argument with Radiohead, I really couldn’t care less. If I were to stop liking a band or singer because they were a bit of an arse I’d be chucking out a good chunk of my music collection/
Radiohead wears leather better.
Impressive as always. They haven’t made a record like Blueberry Boat since Blueberry Boat. Change in inevtible, just accept it.
wow these guys are horrible. They surely would’ve fallen off the face of the earth if not for their radiohead comments.
Oh, please listen to our new song about [Easy Rider]…You brand yourself by brazenly and arbitrarily associating yourself with things that you know people consider cool. That is bogus. That’s a put-on. That’s a branding technique and Fiery Furnaces have their brand that they’re popular and intelligent. So they have a song about [Easy Rider].
beautiful pop majesty. you keep on keepin on, matthew.
I nominate Fiery Furnace – Radiohead+Beck as 2009′s Lol-iest Indie Rock Feud. Radiohead nor Beck may not be even aware of Matt’s call-out, but hey.
I thought Radiohead fans would ignore Matt’s diss and move along. After all, it’s not a personal attack. Thanks to them they managed to make the indie Carpenters relevant and interesting. They’ve become familiar now that I can even spell Matthew Friedberger’s surname without copy-pasting it.
