Divine Fits

Four days ago, Handsome Furs announced their breakup. But Dan Boeckner, the Wolf Parade co-leader who made up half of that duo, didn’t take too long to get a new project going. Boeckner is now one of the three members of a new L.A.-based indie supergroup called Divine Fits. The debonair Spoon frontman Britt Daniel is also a part of it, as is Sam Brown, drummer for the Ohio trash-punk greats New Bomb Turks. The new band plans to release a debut album later this year on Merge, and they’re working with producer Nick Launay. Right now, there’s no music; all they’ve got is a website and a Twitter. But let’s be honest: Daniel and Boeckner don’t write bad songs, ever. Given the past work of everybody involved, this thing is going to fucking rule.

  1. I don’t want to be a disgruntled whore but i just want new Spoon! “Supergoup” albums tend to be good but forgettable. I offer no examples to back up my point. Leave me be!!

  2. This could be awesome.l. Really hope this doesn’t signal the end of Spoon.

handsome Furs/Wolf Parade breaking up was bad enough.

  3. It’s funny, I’ve always heard similarities between Boeckner and Daniel. I’m excited to see where this goes.

  4. My initial reaction: whoa. I stand by that. Let’s see if that holds up.

  5. Holy shit, Dan Boeckner AND Britt Daniel? Should be awesome. I haven’t really liked much of anything from Spoon since Gimme Fiction, so having to wait awhile for new Spoon doesn’t bother me. Maybe Britt doing something else for awhile will help Spoon to have their mojo back if and when they do a new album.
