Japandroids - Celebration Rock

Japandroids’ raucous sophomore LP is one of our favorite albums of the year so far, an achievement all the more notable because, as they told us in a recent Progress Report, they basically broke up before Post-Nothing came out. Good thing that decision didn’t stick. Celebration Rock is out 6/5 via Polyvinyl, but you can now stream the whole thing at NPR.

  1. I have a feeling this album is just going to keep delivering the goods for every summertime celebration.

Also, the new Liars is up on NPR to stream as well.

    • Stereogum is trying to ignore WIXIW, but that only makes it grow stronger…I am curious as to whether or not you guys are actually going to listen to all of the big releases set for the first week of June.

Not only are Celebration Rock (which I am not too keen on (go ahead, make my day with downvotes :)) and WIXIW being released next week, but also albums by The F$@%ing Beach Boys, The F^&*ing Melvins, F@$%ing Crazy Horse, Kool F*@#^ing Keith, Patti Smith, Big K.R.I.T, Joe Walsh, Bobby S%^&ty Brown, Dntel (!?!), L.A. F#%$ing Guns, Amrit’s mom, The Hives, and Eric F@*#ing Benet. The Temper Trap are also releasing an album but I would never include them with such esteemed company (It’s ok, I am prepping for the Player Hater’s Ball).

My challenge to you, Stereogum, is to honor some of these legends and put them in the gauntlet for album of the week honors. I know that some will disappoint, but you can at least count on Bobby Brown to make exceptionally bad music (hate hate hate ).

  2. still my favorite record of this year so far

  3. Ok I give up. Not trying to knock it but I seriously have no clue why this is supposed to be so awesome. Is it like a youthful punk nostalgia thing?

  4. There’s nobility in being teenaged, intoxicated and utterly invincible.
