That is a GLARING omission. The fact that in only 6, 30 minute episodes, a show could be that hilarious and strangely profound for how awkwardly it ended is reason enough it should be on this list. However, perhaps the very fact it was only 6, 30 minute episodes long, and ran way back in some earlier part of 09 is also why I think people plum forgot…for shame!
Glee and True Blood are certifiably awful. I would’ve liked to see Breaking Bad and the Daily Show on there, as well. I knew I wasn’t the only one who watched Community and found it hilarious! I love Its Always Sunny but this season and last season have been their weakest.
I feel that True Blood has fallen victim to the anti-Vampire trend brought on by Twilight. I was very hesitant on starting True Blood, but he only thing that got me going was that I was a big fan of Six Feet Under (for most of its seasons at least) and thought that it’d be interesting to see Alan Ball try to write genre. For the most part, he’s hit all the tenets of what makes genre work, and he’s updated the allegory a bit to fit our times. I thoroughly enjoy it. I say it rivals Buffy as “the” vampire show. Lastly, if this came out during Buffy times, I don’t think it would get as much slack as it is now (mostly because pretentious hipsters haven’t been born yet, or they were still really into Backstreet Boys).
I agree with this, and started watching the show for the same reason. I think that True Blood is charming. You just have to realize what tone they are going for, meaning: sexy, funny, campy, melodramatic. It knows it’s campy, and it is having fun with it. The second season was also way better than the first. The last few episodes went totally crazy and hilarious. I was cracking up about “Bullshit! God has horns!” for days.
DAMN! i forgot about that until i read your comment.
my single vote still goes to 30 Rock but Bored To Death is pretty awesome. Ted Danson is funnier than ever before.
Fuck Glee. I watched the first 3 minutes of the pilot episode and turned it off when they blatantly stole a joke about interracial paternity from Arrested Development. That’s right, Fuck Glee!
for me at least, dexter is a show with a great concept but weak writing and even worse actors (excepting michael hall)…also, sometimes i feel like it’s always sunny tries way too hard and is more obnoxious than funny
but i love me some mad men and wish breaking bad were on this list
10. Greys Anatomy
9. Cougar Town
8. Doll House
7. House
6. 30 Rock
5. How I Met Your Mother
4. Breaking Bad
3. Bored To Death
2. True Blood
1. Mad Men
Seriously House should be on the top 10 it’s the best it’s been since like season 2-3. Breaking Bad shook me to the bone every episode. Bored To Death was a great show with very subtle awesome humor it just sucks that it was so short. And well True Blood and Mad Men def rocked TV this year. Man my Sundays were pretty awesome there for awhile.
HELLO!?!?!?! Does anyone remember the best show of the decade, if not the past 25 years, Arrested Development. Just because the viewship fell off and it only had 3 seasons. The 3 seasons of laughter and comedic writing and talented acting, especially by Jeffrey Tambor, left an incredible mark on how comedies should be done.
I hate to break it to you R-tard, but arrested development ended over 3 years ago. If you were literate, or were not suffering severe blunt trauma to your brain, you would understand this is for the best shows of 2009.
It’s incredible that the league and parks and recreation aren’t on here. does no one watch the league? It’s one of my favorite shows and everyone I know that has watched it really loves it.
My top 10 (not in order), Cougar Town, Modern Family, House, Bones, Two and a half men, The Big Bang Theory, Lost, Mad Men, Arrested Development and The Office.
I agree with the rest of the commentators, Glee is awful, I gave it a few chances, it did not grow on me. bleh
Community?
have you watched community it’s awesome!!!!
seriously, i was skeptical because i didn’t like The Soup, but Community is pretty funny.
I’m tired of hearing about Glee. It’s too forced to be funny.
Glad to see Community overtake Glee.
Mad men still sucks.
Boo to no Breaking Bad. But Mad Men is still amazing.
No Breaking Bad or Battlestar. It’s a bad year for the Bs.
there isn’t a show that can compare to The Flighty Zeus. I mean The Mighty Boosh.
umm, Friday Night Lights? Anyone seen it? Given the ratings, I suppose not.
Glee is fuckin’ gay!
Dexter at 7? only 7? this season gives me chills its so good.
Dexter > Madmen
Now, I like Community, but no way is it better than Parks and Recreation, which is a bit shocking that it’s not on here.
WHERE’S EASTBOUND AND DOWN?!?!?!?

Eastbound and Down was one of the best shows of the decade. And Parks was so good this year. Where you at Parks?

WOOT for Mad Men!! ! But why no love for Big Bang Theory? ? or Two & a Half Men or even How I Met Your Mother?

Damn I wanted either Glee or Dexter to win. I’m pretty sick of Mad Men being praised like it’s the second coming of Jesus fuckin Christ.
Dexter should’ve been a lot higher. Think of it like a concept album. It’s its OWN dudes. Fuckkk ya.
My list:
10. Greys Anatomy
9. Cougar Town
8. Doll House
7. House
6. 30 Rock

Where the hell is Eastbound & Down, Tim & Eric Awesome Show, and Breaking Bad?
no love for sons of anarchy? anyone who watches it ..loves it… and katey segal and ron pearlman from hellboy on one show!?!?!? lets be real here
My list:
Superjail!
Wonder Showzen
Flapjack
Xavier: Renegade Angel
Important Things With Demetri Martin
Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!
That’s in order…
Yeah seems like a list. Lost was on this year?
no love for Yo Gabba Gabba!?
glee is so fucking bad.
The Office & How I Met Your Mother would be high on my list. One Tree Hill would be my tops, but few would agree with me Im sure

With that said, Mad Men is in the right place.
I think this is a pretty weak list. A Top 10 shouldn’t count without having Breaking Bad, Fringe, How I Met Your Mother, or Modern Family.
where’s the wire or six feet under?
No Arrested Development?
how did I not realize that this is an end of year list not an end of decade list?!
The Office should be like at least top three come on guys
I f***ing hate GLEE!
You made some Good points there. I did a search on the topic and found most people will agree.
Party Down
Echt niemals geh
Battlestar Galactica?
It’s incredible that the league and parks and recreation aren’t on here. does no one watch the league? It’s one of my favorite shows and everyone I know that has watched it really loves it.
I tried to get the feed for the RSS for this article but it is not properly showing up in Google Chrome. Any suggestions?
