John Frusciante

The former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante left his old band a few years ago to once again return to life as a mercurial, cultishly loved solo act. Frusciante’s got an EP called Letur-Lefr coming later this summer, and one of its tracks is a minute-long instrumental psychedelic noodle called “Glowe.” Listen to it below.

Letur-Lefr is out 7/27, and Frusciante will follow it 9/24 with the new album PBX Funicular Intaglio Zone.

  1. The best thing about RHCP.

    • He’s a great guitar player, but I would have to say Flea is the standout musician of the band.

      • Not to mention how impressive it is that Will Ferrell plays drum for them on top of all that movie-making jazzafrazz.

        • Not that I’m a big fan of either but aren’t you like the 500 millionth person to make a dumb joke about their slight resembelance.

          • Have many people commented on Chad Smith’s resemblance to Will Ferrell? Yes, yes they have. Saying that this resemblance has been commented on too much is one thing, but saying that there is hardily a resemblance between the two is just ludicrous.

      • IMO, the best VERSION of the RHCP was Chad, John, Flea and Anthony. That unit together made some serious musical magic. And love ‘em or hate ‘em, the Chili Peppers would be a totally different band without Anthony as a front man (lyrically, vocally and as a presence on stage). Also, Chad is underrated as a drummer. Dude is click track tight and he keeps his shit with them simple because it gives Flea room to do Flea. He can play more intricate patters, he just doesn’t need to.

  2. That sounded….good. Why I feel so taken aback by that fact, I’m not sure. But in any event, I will definitely be on the look out for Letur-Lefr. I haven’t seen it or the album that follows it on any “most anticipated albums” lists.
Do I dare say, though, based on a minute long instrumental, that both the EP and the LP should belong on those aforementioned lists? I do, and they should. Keep it up Frusciante!

  3. Now, as far as John finally releasing something under his own name goes, WOO-HOO!! I would NEVER have guessed it would take this long. The Omar Rodriguez Lopez Quartet, Swahili Blonde and Speed Dealer Moms stuff was ALL interesting. But I really liked a lot of John’s earlier solo releases and was really looking forward to more of them. It’s taken WAY too long.
