Halfway through the year SPIN tipped their hand by offering the 20 Greatest Albums Of 2009 … So Far. If you remember, the list wasn’t in any specific order. Their 40 Best Albums Of 2009 are, and it’s interesting to see all the titles that popped up after the last one was published. As well as the albums that missed the cut after they were spun a bit more: Peter Bjorn And John, Blk Jks, Regina Spektor, Glasvegas, Mavado, and Sa-Ra Creative Partners are nowhere to be found. The list — one of oh so many lists — is also refreshingly interesting in and of itself, a fine example of a publication stepping outside of the hive mentality and coming up with something that feels personal. Even if I don’t personally agree with a lot of it.

Where is Backspacer?Such genius should not go unnnoticed, shame on you Spin!!
Always loved Pearl Jam always will, then again I’m the type of guy that Love’s Tori Amos, Kate Bush and Squarepusher, YLT and thats just a drop in the ocean of the music I Love and suffuse with adoration!I am glad that Wilco is there but disappointed that it has been rated so low.Even though the list has supposedly been compiled in no specific order do you expect us to believe that’s true or just by conicidence, come on… and Animal Collective is way overrated just like Foals and Wolfmother and so many other bands out there! No offense Wolfmother, you do Rock, but it’s not like it hasn’t been done before, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, need I say more?
Man, just gave Drake a listen and man he does work, another prommising mixtape from another artist, hopefully he doesn’t pull a Cudi. Dat Kid from Cleveland might be one of the best rap albums of that year but his LP was terrible. Not a fan of The Crooked selection either. Manchester Orchestra was simply brilliant and was a delivery of everything Andy Hulll could be as a writer and an artist. Love manchester orchestra and hopefully they get rec from somebody.
To leave out Eminem’s ‘Relapse’ and include Rick Ross is a joke.
I love Girls because its feel-good music, and I like how its sounds. I’m sorry its not “groundbreaking” enough for some of you.
AC are really progressive and innovative, great. Shit sounds like noise garbage.
Bitte Orca should be at the top. Glad to see it’s getting a lot of love on the comment board.
this is my favorite list so far.. i love the diversity! just cause it’s not indie doesn’t mean its not good.
jesus are they content with putting mpp at the top of their list? the most bland crappy album from an overrated lackluster band. Also this list is not valid, we are supposed to believe anything done by julien casablancas (the strokes if youve been lucky enough to forget garage shit revival) and the ?crooked vultures? a freaking supergroup! radioshit right next to a beautiful album! also shity albums way ahead were: lily allen? phoenix? paramore? and RAP!!!! r u joking me! rap is not music it is trash
think maybe you guys could get around to putting up npr’s all songs considered’s picks anytime soon, this list is old
um Animal Collective sounds like something familar… say from the 60s, and while I get it, it just doesn’t set right in 2009 for me, all I hear is cover songs of beachboys. …. I think spins list has some good stuff, but to balance this list out read rolling stones and then go to amazon or Exclaim. Serious go to amazon or other places like it and read lists and explore music.
Favs or most listened to of 2009 motly Canadian bands, but check them out.
Furnace Face
Dragonette
FINK (with F not P)
