Real Estate bassist Alex Bleeker and his Freaks (including Real Estaters Matt Mondanile and Martin Courtney) just released their hazy Crazy Horse-flavored self-titled debut on Underwater Peoples. In this week’s Drop we we talk with Bleeker about languid, melancholic closer “Part 2.” He let us know the title refers to “Maple Field,” a song he wrote a number of years ago and was “about a field in our town that we always used to hang out in”:
One Summer I came back from college to find that the town had turned it into AstroTurf, so that was kind of a bummer.
But this new take on that old chord progression involves a girl wearing “a sparkly party dress” … because keep on changing. Take a listen while you read the rest of Alex’s thoughts on the track.
This morning we also offered the chance to win An Out-Of-Print Vinyl Prize Pack featuring Kraftwerk, War Child’s Heroes, Massive Attack, & Hot Chip.
