Portishead’s Third was so much better than you’d expect from a reunion record. In fact, as we mentioned when writing up “The Rip,” it’s amazing. Such darkness, intensity, beauty, etc. The one-time long dormant Bristol band have clearly found some sort of rhythm, signing to Amnesty International and already releasing a new track “Chase The Tear” for the organization. The song was heard first on Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 show last night, but appears everywhere else today (12/10), International Human Rights Day. You can purchase it at 7 digital (all proceeds go to to Amnesty Int’l) and you can watch a clip of the band performing the song right here. One thing to note before you do: “‘Chase the Tear’ is a reference to a paper tear-style ‘tear,’ not a tear from an eye!” As the above single art suggests. And no, they haven’t missed a beat (again).

Anyone who finishes Curtis Hanson’s Oscar-winning 2002 film 8 Mile thinks the same thing: Man, I want to record a hip-hop album. Apparently Geoff Barrow owns that DVD. On April 9th, the Portishead multi-instrumentalist will enter the hip-hop ...

  1. FIRS!
I love this oh so much. Portishead keeps getting better and better. Wonder how long before we start seeing remixes of this song.

Hard to say just how good a song like this is until you stick your foot in a few subway doors…All the best playlists are unconscious…

  3. I knicked the song online. You don’t have to pay Amnesty International. Just Google it as a free MP3 and download it for free. I like Portishead too, but in these tough economic times charity starts at home. Sorry Amnesty International.

‘Tough economic times’ . . . ‘charity begins at home’ – the song costs 99p doesn’t it? You can’t be bothered to shell that out? Don’t be so pathetic.

    • Screw you. Its one thing to download songs rather than paying for them. Its another thing to brag about denying money to a charity.

Oh right, human rights < your greed.

  4. Being a long time Portishead fan I wanted to like Third, but just couldn’t get into it; felt like a rehash. This, on the other hand, I LOVE! Seems like they found a new rhythm. It’s Portishead at lightspeed.
