Watch Johnny Depp Join The Black Keys At The 2012 MTV Movie Awards

Last night’s MTV Movie Awards yielded, among other things, a musical performance by the Black Keys that featured Johnny Depp accompaniment on guitar. Sure, kind of random, but at the very least it’s a way better idea than covering Carly Simon with Marilyn Manson. Watch the performances of “Gold On The Ceiling” and “Lonely Boy” (snippet) below.

El Camino is out now on Nonesuch.

  1. Rock is dead. Again.

  2. Why isn’t Johnny Depp making his own music? He’s rich enough to do basically whatever he wants, including starting up his own band.

    • He has made his own music and he has started his own bans I think they’re called P9 or something. I thought is was pretty considerate of Depp and the producers to just throw him a Black Keys set (which was a pretty great performance) rather than actually dedicate broadcast time to Depp penned tunes just for the hell of it. Sidenote: I’m not a hater but Kevin Costner’s music is beyond terrible.

  3. No need for random Kevin Costner attacks!!!

  4. “so i put my fingers here?” – johnny depp in the photo above

  5. Holy $#*^, I could totally see Johnny Depp playing Keith Richards in a biopic based on his Life book. Get on it Hollywood before he starts to lose his looks…oh wait, that would actually help with the movie. I know that he is wearing make-up but he seriously looks like he is in his early 30′s. He and Tom Cruise might actually be vampires (Insert thinly-veiled Scientology joke here). This is better than the time that George Michael Bluth toured with Mister Heavenly, but not as good as the time that Uncle Jesse toured with the Beach Boys or as RubberJonny would say “Uncle Jesse > Wade “Cry Baby” Walker > Scott Pilgrim ODDFUTUREWOLFGANGTYLERBITCHSUCKDICKFREEEARL..that was a mouthful ;)
