Los Angeles’ “Ambassador of Boogie Funk,” DJ, and past Animal Collective shifter Dãm-Funk has put together a smooth, NyQuil-hued, Keytar-against-the-trees video for “Mirrors.” The laid-back nighttime track’s from his ambitious 5-LP debut Toeachizown. As far as the clip: Henry DeMaio-directed. Dãm-Funk woke folks up and got them dancing.

Toeachizown is available for pre-order and should ship by 1/4 via Stones Throw. The release is divided into five themed LPs: LAtrik, Fly, Life, Hood, and Sky. Stones Throw notes, “this box set contains the five records with five separate record covers, and they will not be available elsewhere.” It’s unclear which part of town this XLR8R-brokered collaboration with Nite Jewel would move into, but it does reflect nicely onto “Mirrors.”

perhaps this isn’t shoegaze enough for the stereogum crowd…or it’s just too early in the morning, but im dissapointed that no one else has commented on this yet. Dam Funk is on that next shit.

Solid ambitious album. Forgettable video. His live show is unfortunately what you would expect of a solo bedroom rocker act. Hopefully he can step up his performance and bring some live instrumentation in the future.

This video came out nice. His stage show is solo yet so original too. He spins records (wax) plus comes from behind the turntables and sings live, often with synthesizers and his strap on keyboard in tow. Me and my girlfriends saw him recently in San Francisco. Super energetic show and so funky + sexy. Some are missing the point. Dam is bringing it! Oh and album of the year too! If he (Dam) was instead..your favorite anglo indie artist right now who had released his project “Toeachizown”, the guy would have much more respect right now. Go figure. This stuff is still happening. Some would rather dismiss a guy like Dam and give all the praise instead to guys like a Neon Indian and Washed Out. Never fails.
