D'Angelo @ Bonnaroo

This year’s Bonnaroo-culminating “Superjam” was curated by the Roots’ Ahmir “?uestlove” Thompson, and during the 90-minute show he brought out special guest D’Angelo, the first time the R&B singer has touched an American stage in quite some time. The jam session — which also featured people like percussionist Frank Knuckles, bassist Pino Palladino, saxophonist Eric Leeds and guitarist Jesse Johnson — covered the classics of other artists, stuff like the Beatles’ “She Came In Through The Bathroom Window” and Led Zeppelin’s “What Is And What Should Never Be” (no D’Angelo songs were performed). Scope the gallery up top, and below watch the collective’s take on the Beatles and stream audio of the whole set.

D’Angelo’s next scheduled US appearance will be at the upcoming Essence Festival in New Orleans.

  1. I caught some of the set where they were doing some Zeppelin covers, but I couldn’t see who the special guests were and I asked somebody and they just “Philadelphia musicians”, wish I had known it was D’Angelo. Either way the show was pretty great and this was a pretty awesome Beatles cover choice.
