Here’s the relaxed, daydreaming pop of “White Sky,” a song that fuses Vampire Weekend’s new focus on not focusing on guitar with Ezra’s understanding of how best to channel Paul Simon. It’s technically the third listen from Contra (the fourth if you’re counting b-sides), but it’s actually the very first bit of post-Vampire Weekend material the band shared with us, back when their debut was just one day old. (Years later, totally in vogue.) Since then “White Sky”’s been on Fallon with a string section, and is today freely streaming at MySpace in its studio form. Christmas in December!

Contra is out 1/12 via XL.

  1. I enjoy getting a little taste of an album but why do bands put so many songs out before the album even drops, it kinda ruins the album listening experience. i wanna listen to an album in its entirety, not in bit in pieces.

i did not realize we had to listen to every song as it comes out and we are now unable to control our own content and just not click a link anymore…man, where are we headed. K Accident, only you can decide what and when you listen to something. end transmission.

this has been my favorite vampire weekend song since i first heard it. i’m so happy to finally hear the recorded version!

  3. I forgot to mention the song is great

  4. a sure contender for song of the year 2010-

  5. That is a good point, I can’t argue with that. For me, i miss the element of suprise you know, like the first time i picked up “Kid A” at the record store and put it in my Cd Player, listening to it it in its entirety, but its tough not wanting to listen to the song when its right in front of you.

  6. Very cool. Contra will be great.

i had my questions after hearing it on fallon, but this slightly more uptempo version is most excellent. i think id call this my favorite contra track thus far.

Does Vampire Weekend have anything to sell me? They aren’t very personable.

sure contender for one of the worst songs I’ve ever heard any year

  11. So far three new Vampire Weekend songs and none of them have excited me. I have a feeling this is going to be a disappointing second album, if not, then mild.

  12. I liked it better when this song had a faster tempo. It seems to slow…but still good none the less. Dammit…wish I could have gotten tickets for their Jan 12th show…!

    • I’m bummed I missed out on those tickets too. You can’t even get them from stubhub for an absurd price, no one is willing to sell their ticket

  13. Oh, and this song is incredible.

  14. awesome song!

  15. can’t wait for the album to drop.. i love the song.

  16. definitely channeling Simon. listen here:
    amazing similarity.
