Singer/late ’80s icon Neneh Cherry has enjoyed a bit of a renaissance thanks to her recent collaboration with Scandinavian jazz ensemble the Thing, and the immediate result was an intriguing pair of covers. The Cherry Thing — Cherry’s first record since 1996 — is set to drop in a couple of weeks, but recently the record, which also features covers of her father Don Cherry’s “Golden Heart” and the Stooges’ “Dirt,” surfaced on the web (unfortunately, she does not cover her brother’s “Save Tonight,” though). Stream the record at NPR. It’s out 6/19 on Smalltown Supersound.
