Festivals curated, Arcade Fire beefed, great record released, pants optional: that’s how you have a year. And before the page turns on 2009, the Flaming Lips are adding to that list of distinctions with one more bit via Tuesday’s iTunes release of The Flaming Lips And Stardeath And White Dwarfs With Henry Rollins And Peaches Doing The Dark Side Of The Moon. The title sorta says it all. Wayne and the gang performed “Eclipse” on KCRW in October, and they’ll usher in 2010 by expanding on that teaser, performing Dark Side Of The Moon in its entirety along with Stardeath And White Dwarfs just after the ball drop at their New Year’s Eve show in Oklahoma City’s Cox Center. Wayne seems excited! He made a trailer for the event and everything (tickets sill available for $10!), which we have here along with a tracklist breaking down the cameo appearances on the Lips’ recorded version of Pink Floyd’s classic.

The recorded breakdown:

01 “Speak To Me” / “Breathe” (featuring Henry Rollins and Peaches)
02 “On The Run” (featuring Henry Rollins)
03 “Time” / “Breathe Reprise”
04 “The Great Gig In The Sky” (featuring Peaches and Henry Rollins)
05 “Money” (featuring Henry Rollins)
06 “Us And Them” (featuring Henry Rollins)
07 “Any Colour You Like”
08 “Brain Damage” (featuring Henry Rollins)
09 “Eclipse” (featuring Henry Rollins)

The Flaming Lips And Stardeath And White Dwarfs With Henry Rollins And Peaches Doing The Dark Side Of The Moon is out 12/22 on iTunes. Wayne goes deeper into the album and NYE over at P4K.

  1. These guys should have quit 5 years ago. This is just embarrassing.

Too bad you internet heads don’t know how to have fun anymore. The Flaming Lips are just loved by too many to be loved by one. This sounds like it could be an awesome new years eve spent.

Hope I’ve been taking singing lessons.

I second that point. It’s not even like a “WTF?!” in the Lips’ sort of context. No, instead it’s just a What. The. FUCK.

Seriously, screw that hypocrite narcissist. I saw his spoken word show or whatever you want to call it and it was absolute bullshit. (I’m talking about Henry Rollins btw)

Great point, I was about to also say those same words- hypocrite, narcissist, and bullshit. Henry Rollins is a phony dooshbag of hot air and anybody that pays to hear him do his motivational bag of crap is a sucker.
So the Lips are having him and Wayne’s nephew play at their New Years show? I’ll pass, thanks. Glad I caught them opening for Wilco (with Sleater-Kinney) at Madison Square Garden New Years ’04…

And to Keatonpower: Watching most anything after eating hallucinogens is “something to say the least”. I’m definitely not against recreational drug use but uh…just stop being a tool. Music should be good without the drugs first.

  7. if i could say one thing it would be don’t hate on the lips ’till you’ve been right up front at one of their shows and/or eaten some hallucinogens. its quite something to say the least

  8. I’m definitely going to be downloading this and checking it out… but really it’s not the type of thing I expect to listen to more than a couple of times. It’s sort of a novelty thing.

BTW, Embryonic is an awesome album.

  9. I saw them do a bit of Darkside at Bonnarroo in 2003. They did it against this Wizard of Oz ‘I wanna go home’ video loop that seemed to play forever…it still scares me.

Being a huge Pink Floyd fan I thank the Lips and all who helped for this great cover. I think “The Boys” as I call them would all be proud of the effort!
