Conan O’Brien fan Ted Leo’s forthcoming The Brutalist Bricks is a largely upbeat (’80s hardcore-influenced) affair, but he’s introduced an extracurricular balladic thread via three covers posted and made available at Twitter. As he put it in his allotted words:

This evenings toss-offs: 3 power ballads by women, inspired by @debenham’s request for Robyn. Learn, play/record live, make into MP3s…

Toss-offs, perhaps, but you can’t fuck with a fuzzed-out and heartfelt “Joey.” He also left his mark on Sade’s “By Your Side” and Robyn’s “With Every Heartbeat.”
