The back half of Blur’s 13 is pretty much the finest string of songs ever produced by the band, and the apex of the side comes on tracks 10 and 11, “Caramel” and “Trimm Trabb,” respectively, which are hazy, melancholy, ridiculously gorgeous and weird songs that showcased a much darker side of the band only previously hinted at. “Caramel,” though, never made its way into any Blur setlist (maybe due to its 7-minute-plus running time and a rhythm that borders on near-stillness? I’m honestly not sure). But during their miraculous set at Maida Vale Studios yesterday (broadcast by the BBC), the band performed an absolutely crushing version of it. It was worth the wait. Listen.
