All last week, heavy rumors were flying that Kate Bush, a woman who never performs live anymore, would put in an appearance as part of last night’s Olympic closing ceremonies, a truly epic display of entertaining absurdity. It was not to be. But though Bush herself didn’t step onto the Union Jack-shaped neon lightup stage, she did record a new version of her 1985 single “Running Up That Hill” for the event. And the song played in the stadium while a troupe of dancers built a pyramid out of gleaming white boxes and slow-motion highlights played. That part of the show was cut from NBC’s American broadcast, but you can watch it at Gawker and stream the song’s new remix at Disco Naïveté.
The song is out on iTunes now, but only if you buy the whole A Symphony Of British Music: Music For The Closing Ceremony Of The London 2012 Olympic Games album.
