Animal Collective - "Today's Supernatural" Video

Here’s the eyebleed of a visual for AnCo’s “Today’s Supernatural,” a video that includes Avey Tare in a frightening clown getup, one of those dragon dance costumes riding round in a go-kart before getting beaten up by a pair of disembodied arms with clubs, and so forth. Business as usual for AnCo. Frequent collaborator Danny Perez directs.

Centipede Hz is out 9/4 on Domino. The record streams Sunday on their online radio show.

  1. Beavis & Butthead material for sure

  2. Why does this scream Muppet?

  3. Abstract: Lost on his way to the Gathering of the Juggalos, Avey Tare decides that now is as good a time as any to celebrate Chinese New Year.

  4. aw man, was hoping to see what those clay teeth were about. this doesn’t fit in with any of the themes from their radio shows or album trailers. really, really doesn’t fit.

  5. wait this is awesome

  6. It’s okay, I wasn’t planning on sleeping tonight anyways

    • When you say less than -2, do you mean literally less? Or less as in less downvotes?

I can’t believe Avey went all big budget clown in this ish! Errauck yeah! Strawberry Ham! And the song rulz.

  9. The absence of everybody but Avey Tare from the video speaks volumes about why this song is so…you know. My friend’s yipping, spazzy, hilarious impression is becoming eerily difficult to separate from the genuine article.

  10. I don’t hear how this song is any different than their entire back catalog. It sounds exactly like Animal Collective. I don’t understand why people seem to hate this so much.

  11. i think people have turned on…or, turned against…this song because it is unhinged, reckless, and loony. personally, that’s why i like it. i like the video, too.

    • I like it too – song and video!

I wonder if it’s just people that are new fans that really liked Merriweather Post Pavilion. This doesn’t really sound like that album and so they don’t like it. Or people are just trying to be “ahead of the curve” on the Animal Collective backlash and are predicting that no one will like them any more and want to say that they were the first to not like them.

Those are two shallow interpretations of why people don’t like them anymore, but I guess it doesn’t really matter, does it? I’m just flummoxed is all.
