For obvious reasons, Animal Collective is getting a lot of attention this morning, but Centipede Hz is not the only important new album streaming online in full today. Allow me to direct your attention to The Seer, the massive and bloody-minded new double LP from the reconstituted NY postpunk leviathans Swans. This is an intense, ferocious, extreme album: Two hours of elemental stomps and demented rants and short, shocking bursts of beauty. We’ve already heard “Mother Of The World” and a 10-minute edit of the 23-minute “The Apostate,” and those are monsters, but the whole album demands to be heard. It’s instantly recognizable as one of this year, and now NPR has a stream of the whole apocalyptically sprawling thing. To hear it, click here.
The Seer is out 8/28 on Young God.
