WHY? - "Jonathan's Hope"

In preparation for October’s Mumps, Etc., WHY? put out an EP recently, something that re-established the dormant group’s offbeat ways in the ecosystem. Today, they’re giving us a taste of the new long-player via the colorful, wobbly “Jonathan’s Hope.” “When I got better from the mumps,” Yoni Wolf starts. “Yes, my swollen nut and neck shrunk.” So, you get right into the weird stuff they’re feeling. Stream it below.

Mumps, Etc. is out 10/2 on Anticon. Read our recent Progress Report with WHY?’s Yoni Wolf here.

  1. Definitely liking the new song. Sod in the Seed may be my favorite WHY? song ever. Mumps, etc. is gonna be awesome. Mallet percussion-centric folk-hop is the new genre to beat.

  2. i am kind of unimpressed…. i have every single WHY? ep, album, etc. this just doesnt sound like yonis best work. sod in the seed EP was pretty good, so i had high expectations for mumps. hopefully the rest of the songs are better. that or i hope they grow on me.

  3. Wrong, this song is amazing.

  4. this song FAR surpasses anything on sod in the seed. Why?, slumping? I think not!
The lyrics are decent but as far as the instrumental goes, this is the best beat theyve brought in a while.
