Atoms For Peace - "Default"

This morning, Thom Yorke’s band Atoms For Peace, which also includes Flea and Nigel Godrich, surprised the world by releasing a new single called “Default” on iTunes. It’s an oceanic but anxious thing, running on off-kilter electronic blips but still keeping some of Yorke’s sense of the huge. Hear the track below.

“Default” is available now at iTunes.

UPDATE: Album on the way! Here’s the announcement via Dead Air Space:

You may have heard that I have a new project called Atoms for Peace.

The name comes from some shows of The Eraser that happened a couple of years ago with Mauro, Joey, Nigel and Flea.

We got a big buzz from them and discovered loads of energy from transforming the music from electronic to live, and so afterwards, we carried on for a few days in the studio and decided to make it a loose, on-going thing.
Immersed in the area between the two…electronic and live.

The first tune we’d like you to hear is Default
A 12″ vinyl version will follow next month and an album will eventually follow that next year.

  1. good to see Flea’s bass brought to the fore…

  2. I expected something different than The Eraser 2.

  3. I can’t wait to hear the remixes of this song. It’s begging for it

  4. This is good.

  5. Don’t hear a lot of Flea in that one, but I can picture him dancing to it on stage. Definitely like the song, though.

  6. Flea on lead bass. But seriously, I could listen to this for days.

  7. sexy vocal melody from Thom. Approved!

  8. Love this! And I don’t think ‘Eraser II’ comments are justified based on this track. It has very different production and instrumentation, the chord progression if anything is more Yorke solo piano than Yorke Electronica and I think the Eraser had a very different mood to this song at least.

  9. Moby- esque ?
