It’s been a long time since we’ve heard from Annuals. The North Carolina BTW released Such Fun, their sophomore collection, in 2008. And that was that. (If you recall, way back when, they played “Confessor” on a show hosted by Conan O’Brien.) The sextet’s returning next month with the five-song Adam Baker-produced Sweet Sister EP. Our first taste comes via the sunny elecro-blended opener “Loxtep,” which definitely goes well with the Sweet Sister table setting.

Sweet Sister:

01 “Loxtep”
02 “Turncloaking”
03 “Sweet Sister”
04 “Holler and Howl”
05 “Flesh and Blood”

Sweet Sister is out 3/30 via Banter. They’ll be touring this Spring.

    @Sam
    The band is awesome BECAUSE they don’t focus their sound.
    Their songs sound very different from each other, and that keeps it interesting.

    I love how different it is. Makes me want to get up and dance and the plate cover is neat ;)

  10. Is anyone else hearing the Monkey Island theme in this or it is just me? I like the Annuals and their endless exploration of their sound, but I can’t divorce the image of Guybrush Threepwood wanting to be a mighty pirate whenever this plays.
