The new Broken Social Scene album is imminent. This much you know, along with knowing that the collective’s pared down to a relatively lean six-member core for its sessions, and that “the new record is, like all Broken Social Scene albums, a record driven by love.” Aww! Kevin Drew, Brendan Canning, Justin Peroff, Charles Spearin, Andrew Whiteman, Sam Goldberg, and Lisa Lobsinger are its principal love apostles, it was recorded in Toronto and produced by the band and John McEntire in Chicago, and the list of “guests” comprises half of Toronto. Now we’re another phase deeper into its guaranteed invasion of Blogger Mindspace V.2010 with what it looks like (that’s the art), what it’s called (Forgiveness Rock Record, jam), and what it partially sounds like via “World Sick” (expansive, uplifting, dramatic, melodic, in other words a BSS song, and a good one at that). Headphones up, put on repeat, then do whatever you do when listening to heart-swelling bliss jams:

Pretty underwhelming if you ask me. But I always though these guys were an overrated band with only one truly great album.
It’s funny cause no one asked you
Who are you?
It’s only underwhelming if you hate good music. Or Canada.
EXACTLY! Soooo overrated and their egos (at least Kevin Drew) are overinflated because of it.
You don’t know Kevin. He’s a good dude.
I won’t pre-judge you but if I had to, I’d guess you’re a doosh.
Kevin?
oooo man, been waiting for this. I’m going to buy tickets for 6/19 for the toronto show. Broken Social Scene, Pavement and Band of Horses, Holy shit that sounds amazing.
no one cares what you have to say. every time you post you sound like a fool.
Whoa man. At least he’s saying things relevant to the posted stories. His posts aren’t harming anyone. Your negativity adds nothing here.
Anyway, the track sounds fresh. I like the atmosphere here. Sounds fun and fresh, looking forward to spring/summer.
I care what he has to say because he always ads relevant comments instead of attacking people.
This song is really good and I wish they were playing at Coachella…
This has the sound of gloriousness.
Wow! Wow! Wow! BSS + John Mcentire = Awesome, can’t wait to see the live show.
Ace. It’s music, and it sounds good.. nothing wrong with that.
Nothing quenches morning hunger like a new BSS single, delicious.
Has anyone Seen BSS in concert?? Really considering buying these tickets right now
once again…no one cares…you sound like a moron ‘considering buying’…what is there to consider… if you were a fan of the albums, searched a live video or 2 on youtube, that would be decision enough. tell you what, don’t buy the tickets and save them for someone who can really appreciate BSS without having to ponder it…
Don’t be an asshole.
Hey Mike…nevermind posting and go back to cleaning the toilets at the 7-11.
not funny
actually, it kind of was.
the worst part about this guy YerAnAccident is that I don’t even think he’s trying to be an annoying troll. It seems he’s genuinely a miserable jerk. Consider yourself ignored, guy.
And yes, K Accident, I saw BBS a couple years back in Philly and it was a lot of fun – a big sonic wall of bright, meandering rock
This guy responds something bout everytime write a comment. Think i pissed him off one time, can’t even remember what the hell for and i’m pretty sure he just goes around this site and comments on anything. You wonder why videogum has 40 to 60 post per article and this has only 30 at best. Scott or somebody’s has to make it so only people signed on here can post comments. Take a look at videogum and then come back here. You’ll see what i’m saying
wow…that was almost a first sentence…write much?
hate much
He’s hating on you ’cause your nick is K Accident, which reminds him of KC Accidental.
damn.. my name was just kinda random to be honest, i was listening to alot of “The Clientle” The have a song called “K” so i went with it, doesn’t mean shit really.
without doubt, best live gig i’ve seen.
no doubt, one of the best live bands out there today…and i see a ton of live music, it’s part of my job.
Just bought the tickets, only 4 months to wait now. I’ve seen Band of Horse this past year at Lala, and they were incredible, but Pavement will be incredible. Got to see Stephen Malkmus with radiohead bout 5 years ago, lets see if this can top it. Thanks for the tip’s
Seen them many times. Best was Coachella in 2004 and the only bad one was at Whistler in 2008. It makes a big difference when they have Emily and/or Feist with them on stage but overall still always a band I’ll see when they come to town.
Don’t mind the butt-plug comment from buddy..
They’re awesome live. Must-see.
Yeah, I’m really enjoying this.

wait, why did you post your blog?
ummmm…because their blog is relevant, contains intelligent posts and kicks a$$ on this two-bit flea market of a blog…
^ online snarkiness is fast becoming passe
man o man, did i miss the free samples of the hateorade?
a little underwhelming of a track for BSS, but i’m sure it’ll grown on me, and i never though Ibdi was the best song off s/t and I think that’s the first one they released?
the collaboration between Broken Social Scene and a caliber producer like John McEntire is long over due. whether you are or aren’t a fan either, this record is going to have substance and impact over the broad spectrum of listeners. im super psyched.
McEntire’s talent can’t hide the fact that BSS have been writing the same song and calling it different names since 2006.
if only what you said were true… because then you might have had a chance at not being a twunt.
For an album inspired by love, this post has inspired a lot of hate. folks gotsta chill out. if you don’t like the band/music, why waste energies trashing on stuff that other folks like?
Looks like ost of the neg commenst have been from posters to other posters, not so much to BSS or the song…althought there’s a little bit of that, too.
I think the song’s great.
Feel the love.
at least Arcade Fire don’t release the exact same song and disguise it with a different name.
lol @ all the stupid boring indie hipsters still sucking that broken social dick.
Maybe if you weren’t so used to hanging on for every last drop from the animal collect dick, you would realize how great Broken Social Scene is. Oh, and if you want to talk about bands that are overrated, The arcade fire is the most over hyped band of the last decade. Long live BSS.
When I hear this song I keep thinking “This sounds like a lot more like Arcade Fire than BSS”.
BSS’s sound is pretty diverse.
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery… Ever notice how similar Arcade Fire’s “Headlights Look Like Diamonds” is too BSS’s “Almost Crimes”? The resemblance is uncanny.
“BSS’s sound is pretty diverse.”
Good point.
It’s even more crazy when you address the fact that both songs were released months apart from each other. I have “Headlights” on an Arcade Fire Christmas album from 2002. And “Almost Crimes” was released on You Forgot It In People in October of 2002. I almost care to find out who released what first, except that it’s just such an awesome sound that I don’t really care, haha
“I get world sick everytime i take a stand”
Sounds a little preachy to me. But they have a good enough track record, that i’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.
wow. hipsters are so annoying. all they do is complain about hipsters. why is that always what these comments boil down to? there is always some dumb loser who has to say “um this sounds sooooo hipsteryy.. blah blah blah. some cute reference to the animal collective. blah blah blah. i hate girls, even though everyone does, and i just wanted to get cool hipster cred for hating girls more than everyone else.. wah wah wah.” and poor broken social scene and the arcade fire have to put up with this synthesized rivalry that dumb fans come up with. and so when stereogum says anything about either of those bands, one of these stereogum bottom feeders starts some really big beef about what sounds more hipstery. so sorry none of you got into NYU.
and in other more relevant news, this new song makes me ridiculously happy. its great for recovering from car accidents.
Ouch. You alright?
Hey, Animal Collective is great too!
I love this song, it makes me really happy. And that guitar is just rad. I love this band, BSS are awesome.
stop with the hating!
I love this song and they are amazing live. If you don’t like it go back to dry humping your pillow instead of posting your stupid thoughts.
i kind of like it
This song is a triumph! Keepin’ it on repeat (well, some J News in there, too!)
If I was going to hate on Broken Social Scene I would call them “Broken Circle Jerk”!
HA!
Hey elitists! Hope you got your daily fix of being annoying and pretentious…thank god for this website!
This is awesome. Love BSS, such a great collective of amazing musicians.
What’s with all the negativity on a post that should bring such happiness? Where’s the love everyone?
Sadly Stereogum is kind of famous for having some hateful comments. I don’t even mind when people say they don’t like a particular song or band, but it’s especially disheartening when they start attacking other people.
We are kind of a community so I think it would be nice to just be friendly and constructive. It really is all about the music.
BSS is best when they get the violins into the flow. Wonder if Jessica Moss is working with them again?
I’m only a fan of one BSS album. They are truely a great band though. Many can tell they put a lot of work into their albums. I wouldn’t have the sightest idea how to mix the sound of 4 guitars. It seeems to flow so easy for the band though.
Broken Social Scene – great song!
Forgiveness Rock Record – cant wait – sweet!
It is going to be one of the best Records of the year.
Live Show…
BSS > Arcade Fire MGMT Vampire Weekend Animal Collective
For me B.S.S will never be able to top the “You Forgot It In People” album. This is a good song though. Looking forward to the future.
bss is easily one of my favorite bands but this song isn’t really doing it for me.. still excited for the new album, not a bad song, just not really feeling it.
it’s amazing how both of the solo albums by kevin drew & brenden canning had nothing new or relevant to the modern air of music about them at all, then broken social scene releases their first single off the album due may 4th & it is saturated with hip hop beats on floor toms, loops & yeasayer-esque guitar lines. congrats broken social scene, you’ve digressed to achieve’hipster’.
“hip hop beats on floor toms, loops & yeasayer-esque guitar lines.”??
congrats, jjjjjjjjjjjjj…you’ve made it clear you don’t know shit about music. BSS have used loops and drum samples forever (not all samples fall into “hip hop” category, ignoramo)…and the yeasayer comment? i just feel kinda bad for you.
Like.
Hello. I am an angst-ridden, alienated young man desperately seeking recognition of my existence from others. I am so desperate for attention that I have resorted to writing unwarranted, uncreative, irrelevant, incoherent and inflammatory messages on the comment section of a website that seems to attract a fair number of people who share with me my psychological imbalances. Together, we can reinforce each others’ neuroses. By the way, BROKEN SOCIAL SCENE ARE JUST AN OVERRATED, GLORIFIED BAR BAND – BUT ALL YOU FUCKING “HIPSTERS” GOT YOUR SKINNY JEANS ON TOO TIGHT TO RECOGNIZE IT . . . Whew, man; I feel so much better now . . .
Yeah, we get it. BSS will never write anything as good as YFIIP. So what? This track is phenomenal.
I’ve been listening to this track on repeat for about an hour now.
Awesome track! one of the best lives bands of our time. Thankfully they have two shows in Austin
I really like Feist’s music, so I thought I’d look at this band… This’ll be the first song I hear from them, any other suggestions?
Really good track from BSS. But this day in age is all about Arcade Fire. I’ll have to listen to the rest of BSS’s LP to make up my ming though.
sounds ace, looking forward the album.
The song sounds good. I’ve wanted to see them for a long time. Please tell me they will do more US shows after Toronto!
I’ve never understood quite so much how people can base such judgements on people they don’t even know as people, but as if face of a band. they play great. they love great. they are sweet, just saw them in concert at Harvest of Hope this weekend. they busted their butts to play for us there, they apparently hadn’t slept in a day due to traveling problems.
so if you don’t like them, keep your NEGATIVITY to yourself. there is already enough out there in this world.
BTW the new album is GREEEEEAT LIVE!
