Frank Ocean - "Pyramids" Video

It was a big weekend for Frank, who, after performing on the season opener of Saturday Night Live, dropped a new, glossy clip for his R&B suite “Pyramids.” It’s one of those videos where it was hard to decide what screecap I should use; every frame of this thing is a good screencap. Nabil (Kanye West, Bon Iver, Antony And The Johnsons, etc) directs. Watch it below.

Channel Orange is out now on Def Jam.

  1. i believe terrence malick directed those strip club scenes.

  2. What’s up with the FF7 stuff tossed around in there?

  3. Get outta here, John Mayer

  4. Could somebody get Frank Ocean a cup of coffee?

  5. Perhaps I’m naive, but when I watched this video I thought, “Oh! Pyramids mean strip club! Got it.”

And then a wild John Mayer appeared.

  6. The last shot was pretty cool, though I’m not sure what the point of it was

  7. John Mayer is NOT Slash. I don’t care what you say Frank Ocean! Don’t get me wrong John Mayer is an amazing guitarist, but he spends to much time making romantic comedy songs.

  8. makes so much more sense now that I know he’s not talking about famous Egyptian landmarks

    • Seems more coherent without that Egyptian part even though it’s still confusing. BUT: I’m kinda underwhelmed by this video despite its great cinematography and art direction. Of all things, I became infected with Frank’s music through that first mind-blowing half of that song some months ago. Unfortunately, that synth-funk part was severely minimized in this video. Thus I wish Nabil would have portrayed more pharaohs and less pimping.

  9. Very Shabazz Palacesesque.

  10. Just so you guys know…John Mayer did the solo on the studio version of this song too.

But I like this new overdubbed version.

  11. bath salts

  12. wait…. was that billie piper on the pole @ 3:00?
