The A.V. Club’s Undercover series, in which bands cover unlikely songs, is reliably fun, but it’s not reliably this fun. On the most recent episode, art-metal monsters Gwar, in full costume, wedge themselves into the A.V. Club’s tiny studio to knock out a sloppy, punked-up take on Kansas’s Camaro-rock classic “Carry On My Wayward Son.” Sadly, they leave their pressurized blood-cannons on the tour bus; it’d be fun to watch them spraying viscera all over Nathan Rabin’s laptop. Nevertheless, a glorious spectacle awaits you below.

It doesn’t matter if Gwar have anything new coming out or not. They are simply the greatest.

  1. All my dreams have culminated. Beautiful. Raw emotion laid bare.

  2. I love this title. It really speaks to me and my previously unsatisfied dream of seeing guys in medieval monster costumes play taking on one of the 20th century’s greatest and most innovative pieces of art.

  3. I didn’t realize that “Carry on My Wayward Son” could come across as a kinda badass metal song just by taking out the girly vocals.
