It was a pretty excellent summer in music, but for me, no development was more exciting than the extended Blur reunion, which started with the announcement of a few lives dates that would lead into a culmination performance at the London Olympics closing ceremonies. The apex, of course, was the unveiling of a legit classic new track, “Under The Westway,” which left lots of Blur fans, myself included, wondering, how the hell could they go out like this when they clearly have so much more to say?

Well, it’s not quite a new album — and such a thing may never come to be — but it looks like the band ain’t dead yet. According to an announcement on their Facebook page, more live performances are in the planning stages, including one confirmed, at Belgium’s Rock Werchter festival next July. But, says the band, it probably won’t end there. Here’s the (brief) announcement/teaser in full:

Thank you for waiting… Rock Werchter is about to announce that Blur will headline next July. We’re excited.. hope to travel in 2013 to play to more of our lovely fans who we haven’t seen for a while. Don’t know where yet, we’ll tell as soon as we do..

Speaking as a lovely fan in the States, something in a 200-mile radius of New York City had better be in the offing. Man, this summer just ended and I’m looking forward to next summer already.

  1. Jeeee-sus, I’m tired of these games. My heart can’t take it. Just make a late-life classic album because we all know it’s in the papoose.

This video expresses how I feel †

    • I feel the same way. Damon has been cagy as hell when asked about a new album. He said the band might consider doing one if it were a film score. He said he wants to do another opera. I can only hope he’s being coy to frustrate the faithful. Because honestly, those are terrible alternatives to a new Blur album.

      • i mostly agree, but i think we can all agree that Dr. Dee was the sgt. pepper of our generation and really made sgt pepper sound like those one directions.

  2. Dear Damon,

Take a break from making operas (they’re pretty cool), and get in the studio with your Blur band mates for a new album.

    your desperate fans,
