Local Natives - "Breakers"

Last night, the excellent Silverlake band Local Natives were the “SUPER SURPRISE GUEST” at the Frenchkiss Records CMJ showcase, and — surprise! — the band debuted five new tracks during their set. Today, they deliver another surprise: They’ve released the first single from their forthcoming album, Hummingbirds, the follow-up to their acclaimed 2010 debut, Gorilla Manor. “Breakers” is a lush, swooning chamber-pop number with massive harmonic swells and dynamic shifts. It was among the new songs they performed last night. Check out the studio version, along with tour dates and Hummingbird tracklist, below.

  6. Yeah! This plus new Tegan & Sara means 2013 is coming in hot!

  7. I liked Gorilla Manor alright, but this song is just excellent.

  8. Does anyone else get a Big Echo era Morning Benders vibe from this song? I mean that in the best way.

  9. God, I wish 3 Doors Down sounded like this!!

  10. I was talking to some friends just this week about this band, and wondering if we’d ever hear any more from them.

Can’t wait for the 9:30 Club show.

  11. I like it, but it lacks some of the fundamental catchiness of songs like “wide eyes” and “who knows who cares”.

doesn’t mean it’s bad, but i’m certainly not blown away…
