The Gaslight Anthem - Here Comes My Man EP

Why, it was just last week that we heard Gaslight Anthem covering Foo Fighters’ “Everlong,” and already we’ve got another seemingly random cover from the band. Their version of Bon Iver’s breakout track, “Skinny Love,” is featured on the Gaslight Anthem’s new Here Comes My Man EP. To me, it sounds a little bit like Brian Fallon literally just singing over the Bon Iver original (especially on the first verse), sort of drowning out Justin Vernon’s frailer vocal, like a YouTube karaoke cover or something. But maybe that’s what he was going for. Give it a listen.

  1. What is going on here? The pitch is all over the place–which is fine if you’re just bellowing over a Springsteen b-side but not when you’re covering a a stripped down folk song.

  3. i like the new album. it’s decent. but you know, first fallon’s questionable singing for the first string of dates for the handwritten tour, then last week’s off-the-wall foo fighters cover, and now this piece of shit. awesome, brian, i’m glad you all of a sudden discovered bon iver 4 years after the rest of us did. but all this coupled with the fact you explicitly stated there would never be another record like the ’59 sound? thanks a lot, buddy. is this the shit we have to look forward to now?

  4. LOL…I shut it off as soon as he started singing…WTFF!!!

  5. Skinny Love covers… prerequiste for bands who want indie cred since… well, Bon Iver won a Grammy.
