My Bloody Valentine

The Mayan calendar came to a close on 12/21/2012, the conclusion of a 5,125-year cycle. Coincidentally, we’ve been waiting approximately that long for My Bloody Valentine to deliver the follow-up to Loveless, and whammo, just as the Mayans predicted (and MBV reported on their Facebook page):

On 21-12-12 we finished mastering the new album!

As you may have seen, we had MBV in the top spot of our list of the 50 Most Anticipated Albums Of 2013, and some of you had the (totally understandable) audacity to scoff at that choice. But who’s laughing now, eh? Unless Shields schools us all and drops the thing in 2012, as he promised he would do, at which point you can come back and watch me eat some crow. But I’ll be dining with a new My Bloody Valentine album on the stereo and no apocalypse in sight. Bring strawberry wine; we’ll make a night of it.

Here are some non-US MBV tour dates. If you’ve never seen them, do whatever you can to amend that. They are fucking godhead. I saw them at Roseland in ’08 and I’m still babbling about it on the street to anyone who will listen.

  1. I’m so excited I might need to be put into psychiatric care.

  2. I’m still a little skeptical. Expecting the next message from the band to be “Oops! We accidentally deleted the only copy of the masters for the new album.”

  3. Wow–I never thought I’d see the day. Great news!

    Now if Slowdive would reunite…

  4. Hidden due to low comment rating. Click here to see

  5. I still babble about seeing MBV live as well. Never been a part of anything quite like it before. The entire audience afterwards was just gobsmacked and felt like a community.

  6. It’s a Festivus miracle!

  7. I scoffed at the choice because you put it on a 2013 list, when clearly it still has a chance of being released in 2012.

  8. I am crossing my fingers they make a stop at Coachella so then I can babble about seeing them live.
