“I Couldn’t Be Your Friend” is another upbeat tear-jerker from Tegan & Sara’s upcoming Heartthrob. Based on what we’ve heard so far from the record, it would be fine to assume that the duo’s album title is named for the pain-word “throb” and not its typical definition in conjunction with “heart.” Unless the rest of the record contains lyrics that match the gleaming power pop we’ve already been privy to, salute the Quin sisters for their clever play-on-words. Check out the track over at NPR.
Heartthrob is out 1/29 on Warner Bros.

This should have been the first Heartthrob single. This fits a lot better into the “sassy breakup song” trend that’s sweeping through pop music right now, and it’s a lot less tacky than “Closer”.
IMO the best part about “Closer” is that it’s unafraid to be tacky.
The album has leaked, and it’s fantastic!
