“Margin,” the first song to be released off, Hymnal, the new album from Benoît Pioulard (aka Thomas Meluch), is abruptly bookended with static and fractured sounds, making it sound like some long-lost broadcast from an ancient radio station. It’s an aesthetic Pioulard/Meluch has developed during his long time on Kranky, and brought to artists such as Owen Pallet and Arc In Round. via remixes. Stripped down yet elegant, if “Margin” is any sign of what’s to come, Hymnal will be appropriately named.
