The summer-festival news is coming in heavier and heavier lately. Delaware’s Firefly Festival debuted last year, and they’re back again this summer, coming to Dover’s Woodlands Of Dover International Speedway 6/21-23. Festival organizers were probably smart to make this one heavy on big, middlebrow names, with the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers headlining and festival-bait like Foster The People, the Avett Brothers, Dispatch, Ellie Goulding, and Calvin Harris high up on the bill. But there’s plenty of indie-friendly stuff in there, too, including Vampire Weekend, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Passion Pit, MGMT, Kendrick Lamar, Grizzly Bear, Matt & Kim, Japandroids, the Walkmen, the Joy Formidable, Toro Y Moi, Dan Deacon, Action Bronson, Foxygen, and Chvrches. Public Enemy’s name appears depressingly low on the bill. But, I mean, getting to see Tom Petty and Kendrick Lamar and Japandroids in the same weekend sounds pretty good.
