The oddly melodic drone band Emeralds announced their breakup earlier this year, but the band’s members, including Mark McGuire, have always kept busy with extracurricular activities. And now McGuire has remixed “Letter Of Intent,” the fizzy and lovable new single from Matthew Mondanile’s Real Estate side project Ducktails. If anything, McGuire’s remix, with its synthetic sheen and vocoderized coos, is an even breezier listen than the original. And given that Daniel Lopatin, otherwise known as Oneohtrix Point Never, plays on Ducktails’ entire new album The Flower Lane, that means we’ve got two drone titans working on a deeply pleasant Monday morning trifle of a track, which is a nice and unexpected burst of synchronicity.
