James Blake

British electronic pop time-bender James Blake is about a month away from releasing his new album Overgrown, and the first single “Retrograde” is enough to give me high hopes for it. And now he’s shared a version of “Voyeur,” one of the album’s other tracks. This is the “dub” version, though, so it presumably won’t show up in this form on Overgrown. The track is dance music, of a sort, and it walks the line between the layered-up head-trips of Blake’s early days and the club bangers that presumably inspired him. BBC Radio DJ Benji B recently played the dub, and you can hear a radio rip below.

Overgrown is out 4/8 on Atlas/Repubic, and Blake intends to release the dub on his own 1-800-DINOSAUR label.

  1. Very repetitive, like his older stuff. But this time not in a boring way. Looking forward to it.

  2. I am definitely looking forward to this album. I thought his debut was a bit self indulgent (didn’t care too much for the arrangements and vocal effects), but Retrograde is a really good straightforward pop song and this one is a banger straight out of a boiler room set. This guy is talented for sure.

  3. This may be a dumb question but can someone explain what dub means. Is it just the radio one voice layering on top?

    • That’s what I thought it was, but I’m not sure now cause I’ve heard there’s another version of this going on the album. I mean, I love this version already. Hope it doesn’t change too much.

  4. Liking this song quite a bit, stoked for the new album!
