Ian Rubbish And The Bizarros

A couple weeks back, soon after the passing of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, we were introduced to Ian Rubbish & The Bizarros, via the SNL sketch History Of Punk. The fictional band featured Fred Armisen as a Johnny Rotten-esque punk rocker with one crucial difference: Where Rotten was a public opponent of Thatcher, Rubbish had a schoolboy crush on the Iron Lady, reflected in his increasingly wack music, which reached a nadir with the indefensible ballad “Sweet Iron Lady.” (“We can privatize our nation’s industries”? WTF?!) Needless to say, Rubbish’s bandmates were forced to kick him out of the band after that. Anyway, History Of Punk provided only snippets of those songs, but now you can hear them in full via The Best Of Ian Rubbish EP, which has been made available for free download. Yes, “Sweet Iron Lady” and “Hey Maggie Thatcher” are on here, which really makes you wonder if the Bizarros had any input regarding the track listing on this thing or if Rubbish just went ahead and released it without their knowledge. Maybe we’ll get that dirt in the next installment of History Of Punk. In the meantime, download the EP here.
