In the late ’90s and early ’00s, the British production duo Artful Dodger was one of the primary forces behind the skittering, slick dance genre known as UK garage; their signature tune “Re-Rewind” was also Craig David’s first hit. Over the past year or so, fellow British production duo Disclosure, whose two brothers were pretty much babies when Artful Dodger were peaking, have been doing excellent work in bringing garage back, which, if singles like “White Noise” and “You & Me” are anything to go on, is exactly what the world needed. And now, Disclosure have paid tribute to their forbears, remixing Artful Dodger’s gliding 2000 single “Please Don’t Turn Me On” and adding vocals from the young singer-songwriter Zoe Kypri, whose lyrics more or less answer singer Lifford’s words on the original track.
