UK post-punk outfit These New Puritans will release a new record this summer, two year’s after 2010’s very worthy Hidden LP. Titled Field Of Reeds, its production is helmed once more by by Graham Sutton alongside the band’s own Jack Barnett, though based on this listen, the scope of things seems expanded: New album single “Fragment Two” revolves around pianos, horns, and wider-screen orchestral arrangements, eschewing the staple sounds of a “post-punk” tag, continuing a push into avant garde and now even classical sensibilities. Overall “Fragment Two”‘s sound is more restrained dynamically, though still bundled with the coiled tension that’s always made These New Puritans go. It’s a lovely, ambitious thing, and you can hear it here:
Field Of Reeds is out 6/10 via Infectious Music. “Fragment Two” is an immediate free download if you pre-order the record at iTunes.
