Derek at Live 105 in San Fran had the Bravery on his show Tuesday night. He asked them about Brandon Flowers’ haterade and they had quite a bit to say. Here’s the audio…

I just heard on Howard Stern that comedian Mitch Hedberg died. Is this really true?

  2. george  |   Posted on Mar 31st, 2005

hey did anyone else hear that mitch hedberg died? i figured this would be the best place to get the facts.

  3. He died of a heroin overdose. very sad

  4. april  |   Posted on Mar 31st, 2005

I heard that Mitch died too, but didn’t see anything on his site. Very sad if it’s true.

  5. robb  |   Posted on Mar 31st, 2005

Go to defamer.com, they confirm that he did in fact die. Such a shame.

  6. kelly  |   Posted on Mar 31st, 2005

oh no!! not mitch! :( :(

  7. no one’s really reporting it. i heard about it from howard stern and then i called mitch’s booking agent and he confirmed it for me.

    so sad.

  8. It’s true…….sad, but true

  9. Justin  |   Posted on Mar 31st, 2005

I don’t know a damn thing about the members of the Bravery or their musical background, but the album sucks.

  10. asshole  |   Posted on Mar 31st, 2005

all these “new, new wave” bands suck.

  11. pageblank  |   Posted on Mar 31st, 2005

kitty text was also talking about mitch hedberg:

    http://kittytext.blogspot.com/

Dude in the bravery wears a bracelet made out of a dollar bill. Sweet Jesus Christ.

  12. So is Mitch Hedberg in The Bravery or The Killers?

  13. Fat kid  |   Posted on Mar 31st, 2005

I agree Asshole. Sucky bands fighting about who sucks more is totally annoying. The Killers suck just as bad as The Bravery, so they need to shut their pie holes.

  14. Before the Bravery, Sam was also in El Conquistadors, a band comprised of a bunch of Vassar kids (I knew the singer Seth). I saw them play at Arlene’s in 2001 and they were very behind the curve of what was considered the “NYC scene”. Also saw The B open for VHS or Beta last year- they were right on musically but their image was so forced (even pre-major label). Here’s an El Conquistadors link with funny Sam pix:

  15. skaba the hut?!? classic….

  16. Hayley  |   Posted on Mar 31st, 2005

Mitch Hedberg’s hometown newspaper has an obit on their website.

    http://www.twincities.com/mld/twincities/11278099.htm

  17. They should have kept the guy from CSI in the band. Yikes.

  18. That’s sad about Mitch Hedburg, I thought he was the funniest guy out there. Oddly I have his dvd from Netflix out right now.

  19. yeah  |   Posted on Mar 31st, 2005

listening to that radio dj suck off the bravery’s mediocrity is so lame. I don’t respect a “rock” band that claims they are taking the high road and then all of the sudden starts making little girly comebacks. I think that brandon flowers is a little cheeky for saying it, but who cares the bravery just responded like teenagers. and hes right, they did just get signed because of the killers. whatever, why do i care

  20. telemachus  |   Posted on Mar 31st, 2005

    “It’s like hitting a girl” ???

Uh, who’d the one wearing absurd amounts of eyeliner?

    Both bands suck. Hard.

  21. ryan  |   Posted on Mar 31st, 2005

perhaps “Honest Mistake” is about dude’s ska-dreads?

  22. FUUUUUUUUUCK Mitch Hedburg was awesome. My friend might kill himself.

  23. godDAMN do i ever love the effing bravery!
    for reals though.
if y’all hipster types can get all damp over schmaltz like kelly clarkson, avril lavinge and britney, lord knows i can get my teenage jollies pogoing to the delicious dance-pop confections these fellas cook up. and the killers were much cooler before brandon become a paranoid android. they’ve still got some top tunes though. rave on, kiddies…

  24. Taking A Dump  |   Posted on Mar 31st, 2005

Is this Hedberg news for real, or is this an April fools joke?

  25. Devin  |   Posted on Mar 31st, 2005

Just look at the bravery singer, it’s so apparent he ‘s a meathead. This is the most pathetic feud between bands ever…they both have 0 talent and ripped off other bands and now they have the nerve to try and complain about one another. right.

I realized that new ‘brightside’ single is exactly the same as that all american rejects song of a view years ago. Trash.

  26. as a former member of Skabba the Hut and it’s following incarnations, I would like to take a moment to revel in the hillarity of hearing Gideon Yago say those three words with a mouthful of bile and contempt… skabba. the. hut.

  27. EFF gideon yago! now THERE’s a tool if i’ve ever seen one. like he’s so above it – how about another news item on avril lavinge (oh excuse me – you’re too busy big upping pedophile act smoosh), you poseur? christ! and let us not forget that the rapidly fadiing killers boast a drummer that once played in a ska band called attaboy skip – HELLO?!?! i’m sure we can dig out embarrasing photos of each and every one of us. haven’t y’all seen carlos d’s high school picture with the really bad rap-rock boy braids?

he who is without sin, people…

  28. Justin  |   Posted on Mar 31st, 2005

“Rapidly fading”? They have an album in the Top Ten right now.

  29. Ellen  |   Posted on Apr 1st, 2005

if you guys read NME with the bravery on the cover, they do seem to namedrop and ass-kiss the killers quite a bit, which seemed a tad disconcerting- sounding like superfans, but i guess that’s cool. that is toolish of brandon to diss the bravery for the very thing they’re allegedly guilty of (being in earlier bands? lol) ok even billy joel was in a kiss-like band before his successful days…we all learn to communicate, perform, etc etc from others’ pasts…though it is very funny to think carlos d. would have rap rock dreads LOL especially since he comes across as above it all.

  30. Wayne  |   Posted on Apr 1st, 2005

I thought the killers drummer use to be in a ska bankd. hmm?

  31. Mehdi  |   Posted on Apr 1st, 2005

What are they fighting about, they are both crap and could fall off the face of the earth and I wouldn’t care.

  32. frankie  |   Posted on Apr 1st, 2005

wait, which person are you referring to as taylor hanson?!?!

  33. ‘rapidly fading’ was in reference to their credibility, not their record sales – cuz cool bands don’t diss other bands that publicly praise them…

  34. I dont like the bravery very much, but very much do Love The Killers. But any way I hate when bands feud.it makes them both look like asses, when niether of the bands are, I MEAN C’MON CAN’T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG.

  35. Nocturne  |   Posted on Apr 2nd, 2005

I can’t stand Brandon Flowers, so I think he deserves any kind of verbal smackdown. Anytime you’re the lead singer of a synthpop band and are a Morrissey/Simon LeBon wannabe and suck at it, you need to shut the hell up. The other three guys don’t bother me. Brandon has been an arrogant asshole ever since The Killers got a bit known. Someone I worked with at one time had the misfortune of being at the other end of a very unnecessary altercation with him late last year.

  36. Kris  |   Posted on Apr 2nd, 2005

I think Brandon Flowers and Sam Endicott should kiss and make up… it would be totally hot!

  37. Webradinger  |   Posted on Apr 2nd, 2005

I also think that Brandon Flowers needs to shut his pie hole. Does he know that the the Killers and all these other fucking bands were preceded by the 1980′s? Shit, and the Bravery doesn’t even sound like the Killers, if anything, they sound more like Franz Ferdinand, New Order, and some Erasure. Brandon Flowers is a stupid dumbass. If I was him, I’d be more concerned about cultivating a stage presence.

  38. John  |   Posted on Apr 4th, 2005

    bbbbb

  39. John  |   Posted on Apr 4th, 2005

Clearly it’s a matter of which band sucks less. I don’t get the way everyone refers to Duran Duran as some great band these days. Having grown up in the 80s I just don’t get it. They were a joke then and should be now. The Bravery seems more like Wire or New Order to me. The Killers def. seem more like Duran Duran. Here’s a thought though…instead of aping the sound of another band or era how about doing something original? hmmmmm.

  40. Chris  |   Posted on Apr 6th, 2005

The Killers Rule. The Bravery Also Rule. Anyone who knows ANYTHING about writing music can appreciate both bands, and who cares who was in a ska band previously! how irrelevent is that!

I’ve seen both bands live and both do well. The killers obviously have one less member, so the music is gonna sound thinner.

…and as for the guy who said “Anytime you’re the lead singer of a synthpop band and are a Morrissey/Simon LeBon wannabe and suck at it”….
….since when were The Smiths a bloody synth band!?!?!?

Both bands rule. end of story.

  41. Matt  |   Posted on Apr 6th, 2005

When I first heard The Bravery, my thoughts were “Sounds like Muse and The Killers clashed.” I can see where he’s coming from.. but he still has no right to make such an accusation.

  42. Emorphous  |   Posted on Apr 7th, 2005

The bravery are mediocre at best..its unfortunate that the drummer is the only good asset to the band. But, for anyone who doesnt know, the bravery’s frontman Sam Endicott, drew the first punch when he made one of the most reprehensible comments ever. In an interview with NME he said “Well, you know all those other bands we?re compared to? The Strokes, The Killers, all those bands? have you ever seen the movie Twins? They?re Danny DeVito. The Bravery are Arnold Schwarzenegger.” as far as Im concerned, Brandon Flowers has every right to attack the bands lame attempt to buff their own ass. The Killers success has been far more superior. And the Strokes blow them both away, they paved the way for this half assed attempt at good music…dont bite the hand that feeds you.

  43. Emily fox  |   Posted on Apr 7th, 2005

WOOOOOOOOO dont the bravery rock just met them n they r so awsome waaaaaaaaaay better than the killers. Brandon Flowers is up his own arse in sayin the things he said about them! FOREVER LIVE THE BRAVERY! hahah

  44. emily  |   Posted on Apr 7th, 2005

AT first i thought the braverys dress sense and large amount of eyeliner was rather perculliar but not anymore im totally hooked to them they r gods have u seen these guys faces! they r goin to go faaar!

  45. Chris  |   Posted on Apr 8th, 2005

I don’t see how u can compare The Strokes to The Bravery. just becasue their from the same place and both use distorted vocals. Their music is completely different! For a start, the keyboard heard in “12:51″ doesn’t qualify the strokes as a “synth” band!

    STOP COMPARING BANDS EVERYOBODY!!!!!

p.s. I Reeeeally hope SWOLLEN SUMMER gets a release this summer in the UK because its already my anthem of the year!

  46. bryan  |   Posted on Apr 16th, 2005

i dunno wat ur talking about chris..there is no fuckin keyboard in 12:51..its nick playing the lead on his customized epiphone riviera wid p90 pickups

    get your shit straight

  47. yasmin  |   Posted on Apr 17th, 2005

i think both the bravery abd the killers R SO GUD. i reely wanna meet both of dem. wats the point on focusing on their past? its wut ther doing now wich is important. hav u noticed the best groups are always rivals. for example the smiths and th cure- although the smiths are better, i luv the love cats :P

  48. Kelly  |   Posted on Apr 19th, 2005

    ur all dicks
    the KILLERS ROCCCCKKK!!
    BRANDONS HOT
    THE KILLERS R THE BEST
    SO SHUT IT

  49. dn if this is a bit so last wednesday but im goin wiv the killers myself, the bravery r so empty n they play music not for lovin it or woteva but for gettin a few obsessed girls to giv em blow jobs. They have nuffin in em but it dnt mata anyway coz music affects ppl in diff ways aight??

  50. yasmin  |   Posted on May 3rd, 2005

exscuse me but u got that from NME magazine didnt you? sorry but i think people respect people more if theysay an opinion which was originally said by them

  51. yasmin  |   Posted on May 4th, 2005

i realised that the bravery are wicked and wel beta than the killers

  52. charlotte  |   Posted on May 5th, 2005

The Killers ROCKS. The Bravery is total trash. The Bravery should feel honored that they’re compared to The Killers. This is getting ridiculous.

  53. lindsey  |   Posted on May 12th, 2005

This analogy is gonna sound insane but go with it….Have you ever seen phantom of the opera? Its like this:

Raoul (The Killers): who you love

The Phantom (The Bravery): who you wanna ____

There music is like night and day (and I think you know who falls in which category)…

As for the Bravery not being original…WHO CARES?! I’m so tired of indie-hipsters thinking a band can only be good if they’re completely unique…HELL NO! The only thing that should matter when youre rating music is the music itself. Questions to ask yourself: Does the music make you wanna move? Does it have a message? NOT: Did that one guy used to play in a ska band? NOT: What the hell are they wearing?

You indie-hipsters need to wake up and start judging the music not the band…

Now I hate to be a shameless plugger but if you want to hear some music that needs to be played more…why don’t you go check out ‘Danger! High Voltage’ by Electric 6 (<–They hate to be compared this way buts its the best way to decribe them: If Kiss got locked in Studio 54 circa 78′)

  54. Ruth  |   Posted on May 12th, 2005

I think The Killers and The Bravery are both very good bands, with a keane sense of style. It’s stupid how people bring up the past as a way to shoot people down. So what, Sam was in a Ska band, good for him! It just why stick to only one thing if your good at many things. As far as the whole New-Wave is going to be the new trend, why should this “trend” be any different from ska/grunge trend from the 90′s?? As time changes so does music. Love it or Leave it.

  55. Poo Poo Head  |   Posted on May 12th, 2005

I think the Killers and Bravry are so good bands. I have both ther albums and i like the music cause its really good to listen to especially when you want to dance. I like dancing like a little girl even though im 45 and live with my aunt in Idaho. When will they play in Idaho? The Killers really have nice makeup but The Bravery has nice jackets. i like them.

  56. Ruth  |   Posted on May 13th, 2005

That is funny that somebody mentioned that the Drummer from The Killers (Ronnie Vannucci) was also in a Ska band, and Brandon Flowers just happened to get on Sam’s case for once being in a Ska Band. I wonder what Ronnie thinks of Brandon saying that. I think this little feud is interesting, and I can’t wait to see what happens next. :D

  57. kristen  |   Posted on May 22nd, 2005

brandon FLOWERS? he’s an effing ahole for saying that, I mean without U2 or The Cure, would the killers have been signed? SOOOOOOOOOO unoriginal

  58. Ruth  |   Posted on May 23rd, 2005

LOL that’s sorta funny…! Anyway, I was watching um VH1 and something about Rock’n'Roll feuds, and the host said, as long as there is Rock’n'Roll theirs going to be feuds or something like that… I ono, but I think It’s just a scam! It’s a publicity scam is what it is?! LMAO…just kiddin’. I have no idea what the **** i’m talkin about.

  59. rynn  |   Posted on May 24th, 2005

I think both bands r GREAT! the killers have some kick ass songs but i have 2 say i prefere the bravery. i listened to the killers abulm only like 10 times and got pretty sick of it but ive listened to the braverys a million times and still love it. plus the bravery r SO HOT (Brandon is 2 by the way). Sam Endicott and the drummer (what the heck is his name anyway?) i am drooling over them right now.

  60. Ruth  |   Posted on May 24th, 2005

Rynn the Drummer’s name is Anthony. lol

  61. rynn  |   Posted on May 24th, 2005

  63. Ruth  |   Posted on May 26th, 2005

Does anyone know where a REAL good mesage board is for The Bravery.. I need somehwere to spend a few hours or so… lol!!

  64. Rynn  |   Posted on May 29th, 2005

I was searchin the web for a good bravery message board but couldn’t find anythin. It sucks man. They should really have one on their website. We can chat about them here if you want.

  65. alexis  |   Posted on May 29th, 2005

oh u guys, the killers have no idea what they are talking about, its not like theyre getting money or paying the bravery for being a band. its stupid how people like bands now a days because theyre “unique” or “different”. we’re in the year 2005. the music can sound different from one band to another, but the elements will be the same.
p.s. the killers and the bravery both rock

  66. Ruth  |   Posted on May 31st, 2005

Alright Rynn, sounds like a plan to me!! ;)

  67. Ruth  |   Posted on May 31st, 2005

I love it when Sam is so dramatic singing An Honest Mistake..makes me giggle! haha j/k!

  72. Rynn  |   Posted on Jun 9th, 2005

God, sometimes i wish i lived in the US! Well they’re on Popworld on Sunday! I can’t wait!!!

  73. yasmin  |   Posted on Jun 9th, 2005

i think people that say that we like the bravery only because sam is fit, but i heard them before seeing them so that’s not true in all cases- i think sam is soo cute there is this boy in my school hu is the spitting image of him- even fitter! i also like the was that sam makes random noises on songs in the album- all in all- the album is 10/10

  74. Rynn  |   Posted on Jun 9th, 2005

You’re damn right about Sam being cute and that their album is 10/10! What do you think of Ant and Mike(Zakarin). They’re well fit!!!

  75. Ruth  |   Posted on Jun 9th, 2005

    I agree with you Yasmin!!

  82. Ruth  |   Posted on Jun 14th, 2005

I seen a picture of Bob Hardy(FF) holding his bass, and it looks like Mike and Bob play the same bass. I don’t know for sure if they do or not, but they look the same… o.O

  83. Colleen  |   Posted on Jun 15th, 2005

All of this terrible internet speak and poor grammar is giving me a headache. Anyway, I think both The Bravery and The Killers are good, but I have to say that I like The Bravery more. They have an edgier sound, and it’s surprising to hear that the guy from The Killers is actually dissing The Bravery. First of all, The Killers sound much more poppy, and I didn’t even know the mainstream knew about The Bravery. Every song from The Bravery that I have heard I have liked, and I own The Killers’ Hotfuss, and I only like about half of it.

And I really don’t see how it matters that Sam was in a ska band years ago. A friend of mine was in a punk band and he got sick of that, so now he’s looking to join a band with a more edgy new wave sound. Another guy I know that was in a ska band in my high school is now in a metal band. It is not uncommon for musicians to want to try something new…why should they have to be so one-dimensional and closed-minded?

Shameless plug: If you like The Bravery, check out The Faint. They tend to add even more electronic sounds.

  84. Ruth  |   Posted on Jun 15th, 2005

    …Ok..
The Faint is awesome. I really haven’t heard much of their stuff, but their from my home state of Nebraska and so is Conor Oberst (Bright Eyes) so even if they did suck, I’d still support them. Meh,..anyway.. I really haven’t heard anything new about The Bravery..probably to busy touring! Poor guys..must be exhausted!

  85. Ruth  |   Posted on Jun 15th, 2005

Hey I just Listened to ‘Het Summer Day’ (not sure if thats the right title or not) and I also heard ‘Hot Persuit’. Wow, if you guys get the chance you should give them a listen especially ‘Hot Persuit” that song is bloody amazing!

  86. Rynn  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2005

Hey Sunshiney Day its called. Hot Pursuit is my second favourite song on their album, Swollen Summer being the first. Have you heard it yet?

  87. Ruth  |   Posted on Jun 16th, 2005

Swollen Summer rocks my socks! LOL and Hot Persuit isnt on their album, well at least not on the US version anyway, Dang us amercians are always getting jipped. *sigh*.

  88. Margo  |   Posted on Jun 19th, 2005

This whole thing about bands stealing each other’s “sound” is so stupid and redundant! People have been ‘copying’ other bands forever. Thing is… you can’t really steal a sound. You can steal lyrics, you can steal the score, but you CAN NOT steal a genre of music. It if weren’t for people listening to others’ music and being inspired to write similar music themselves….then there probably wouldn’t be ANY bands out there. By sides that, this is how music changes and evolves: ppl take a certain ‘sound’ they’ve heard and put a slightly different spin on it. Fact of life.

  89. Mitch Hedberg died of a heart problem he had as a child…not from drugs. Although Drugs weren’t helping his heart problem. So don’t say someone died of drugs when you don’t know the facts. DOn’t assume shit. Just because someone smokes doesn’t mean they die of lung cancer and any related cancer.. they can die from a heart attack or whatever.
