David Lynch - The Big Dream

Two years ago, the great discomfort-stoking and brain-breaking film director David Lynch took a break from enthusiastically endorsing transcendental meditation to release Crazy Clown Time, an LP of wriggling and dark electronic pop that served as Lynch’s first-ever album. And later this summer, he’ll follow that one up with a new album called The Big Dream, which will include 11 new songs and a cover of Bob Dylan’s “The Ballad Of Hollis Brown.” Here’s how Lynch has described the album: “Most of the songs start out as a type of blues jam and then we go sideways from there. What comes out is a hybrid, modernized form of low-down blues.”

The album’s vinyl edition will include a bonus 7″ single that’ll feature the Lykke Li collab “I’m Waiting Here” on the A-side and a Lykki Li etching on the flip. “I’m Waiting Here” isn’t exactly “low-down blues,” but you could see how it’s Lynch’s version of the stuff. It’s a smothered torch song with a narcotized vocal from his guest, and it sounds like a vaguely sexed-up version of the beautiful, faraway songs that Lynch was helping to produce for Julee Cruise a couple of decades ago. Check out the album’s tracklist and, if you’ve got Spotify, stream “I’m Waiting Here” below.
