“Q.U.E.E.N.,” Janelle Monáe’s irresistible, Erykah Badu-assisted diva-funk vamp, stands as one of the greatest singles of the past few months, and it’s also yielded my favorite video of the year. And given just how hard Monáe sells her own brand of mutant art-kid squiggle-pop, it’s not too surprising that Prince, an obvious influence on Monáe’s unique style, would get interested. Prince is set to appear on Monáe’s forthcoming album The Electric Lady, which is big news because Prince doesn’t do anything Prince doesn’t want to do. And now he’s also remixed “Q.U.E.E.N.,” laying an elastic bass-wobble underneath the track’s rippling snap. Listen to the remix below.
