Fuck Buttons

A lot has changed in the four years since we last heard a new Fuck Buttons album — the band has explored side projects, been played at the Olympics, and now seems to have finally gained the confidence to record an album without an outside producer. Slow Focus is now streaming here on Pitchfork Advance, and it’s really worth the listen. Much of what you could infer from the previously released “The Red Wing” reflects the album as a whole, but that was just a short edit, and the band’s scope is far wider once you hear the record as a whole. Clearer than their first album, and with a bit less shine than Tarot Sport, their third album has taken the band’s typical energy and stretched it out like taffy, while intensifying their menace. Slow Focus — it’s a pretty fitting name. With the increased space and slower feel, the caustic sounds just hit even harder, and I can’t wait to hear what this will all sound like live. 1. I remember listening to Street Horrrsing in the library back in college and having the most profound existential experience. When I took off my headphones everyone seemed so quiet and mundane. On first listen this is fucking amazing.

  2. It took me a second before the headline coalesced from a string of random words into something that made sense. I wish my office mates were enjoying this album as much as I am.
