Against Me! - True Trans

It’s been about a year since Against Me! leader Laura Jane Grace came out as transgender, changing her gender and her name. Since that time, two of Against Me!’s four members have left the band, and they’ve finished work on their new album Gender Dysphoria Blues with producer Butch Vig and a makeshift band that included NOFX frontman Fat Mike. When I saw the band last fall, I heard a bunch of the songs intended for that album, and holy shit you guys, that thing is going to be an absolute triumphant heartwrenching monster.

But they still haven’t announced any plans for the album’s release. Instead, Grace is hitting the road for a short solo-acoustic tour, which basically still counts as an Against Me! tour, since Against Me! started as her own solo-acoustic project. And she’s releasing a tour-only solo-acoustic 7″ EP called True Trans. It features two new songs, “FuckMyLife666″ and “True Trans Rebel Soul,” both powerful jolts of singalong folk-punk, somewhere between Billy Bragg and early Mountain Goats. You would be well advised to use the widget below to stream or download those songs, because they are very, very good.

And here are those solo-acoustic tour dates:

08/10 – Philadelphia, PA @ MilkBoy
08/11 – Boston, MA @ Brighton Music Hall
08/13 – Providence, RI @ Fete Lounge
08/14 – Washington, DC @ Rock and Roll Hotel
08/15 – Brooklyn, NY @ Knitting Factory
08/16 – New York, NY @ The Bowery Ballroom

Against Me! will also play full-band shows at Riot Fest Chicago and Riot Fest Denver.

  1. Hah this write-up reads out exactly like the one I posted last night, give or take a few descriptors. What the fuck, man… Talk about the big guys stealing from the little guys.

    • The only thing I didn’t do is say Butch Vig was producing the new album, because he isn’t. Laura Jane handled production all by herself, in her own studio she built I believe.

      • I dunno dude. Not trying to get in the middle of this, whatever “this” is, but to me (the reader) it just seems like two write-ups on the same topic.

However, I do enjoy your blog michael_, so please keep writing.

    • I promise you I do not read your blog.

      • Not buying it. Line for line, dude, the whole thing reads basically the same. It’s not plagiarism in the sense that it’s word for word, but last night when I wrote the post, I wrote it all off original thoughts seeing that the download wasn’t flushed out into the world with a press release (not that I ever regurgitate press releases in the first place) and arrived in the evening when most major web sites had closed up shop for the day. Who can I contact at legal?

        • Believe what you want, I really don’t give a fuck.

          • All you have to do is provide a credit link to the source. It isn’t a difficult thing to do. I credit Stereogum in my posts if this site provided the actual content or news that every other news source left out. I don’t know what your problem is, man, and your responses are actually quite upsetting. I don’t feel getting into it any further on here with you will help, because you’re not a very friendly guy whatsoever.
