Kevin Gates - Stranger Than Fiction

The Baton Rouge hard-groaner Kevin Gates has been an underground regional rap star for years, but earlier this year, he released The Luca Brasi Story, one of the year’s finest mixtapes, and finally slow out-of-towners like me started cluing into how good this guy is. He’s having a serious moment right now, and it continues today, as Gates releases Stranger Than Fiction, an actual album that you have to pay money for. We’ve posted the staggering story-song “4:30 AM,” and now the whole thing is streaming online. I’ve only listened once thus far, but my first impression is that this thing just wrecks. Juicy J, Migos, Starlito, and a few others show up, but Gates is the real show here. Listen to the album below.

Stranger Than Fiction is out now; you can get it at iTunes.

  1. This is fantastic. It’s awesome that this guy is finally gaining national recognition. That he’s done so by staying true to himself during this whole process speaks volumes. Stranger Than Fiction is up there with Run The Jewels and Yeezus as one of the best hip-hop releases this year.
